Our Sustainability Journey
Since our launch in 2009, Trenery has been committed to maintaining high ethical standards and we are always looking for new ways to drive positive change. As part of the Country Road Group, we aim to embed sustainability into everything we do - from our relationship with suppliers and sourcing of raw materials, to energy efficiency and waste reduction within our stores, head office and fulfilment centre.
“The fashion industry has a huge responsibility to sustainability, as there are so many processes involved in what we do,” says Jane Grimme, Head of Design at Trenery, “from the growth of raw materials like cotton, linen and cellulosic fibres, to the treatment and spinning of yarns, the weaving and dyeing of fabrics, and to the making, washing, packaging and shipping of finished garments.”
“We are an industry that can and should be innovative and resourceful, and therefore make a big difference to our environmental impact,” Jane adds. There are a number of initiatives Trenery proudly includes in this commitment towards being a more sustainable business.
Jane says: “I am proud to reflect on what we have accomplished so far at Trenery but also inspired by the opportunities to improve in the future. Our goal is to make every product more sustainable by 2020.
Better Cotton Initiative As a member of the Better Cotton Initiative, we are committed to supporting sustainable cotton farming practices and contributing positive change to the people whose livelihoods depend on it. 
Cellulosic Fibres Cellulosic fibres like viscose, modal and lyocell are tree-based fibres and an estimated 150 million trees are logged every year to produce them - a third of which are from ancient and endangered forests. In partnership with not-for-profit Canopy, we’re exploring more sustainable options for sourcing our wood-based fibres. 
Responsible Wool Strategy We are committed to ensuring the humane treatment of sheep in our wool supply chain. To support this, we have developed a Responsible Wool Strategy, featuring commitments to achieve greater traceability and higher standards throughout the wool industry. Learn More. 
Leather Working Group Our range of women’s handbags are made in partnership with the Leather Working Group, which regularly audits our tanneries to ensure responsible water, energy and chemical usage. Learn more. 
Regenerated Cashmere In 2015, we launched our regenerated cashmere program to minimise the impact the cashmere industry has on the fragile grasslands of Mongolia, where a third of the world’s cashmere is sourced. 
Pachacuti By collaborating with Fair Trade organisations, we empower traditional artisans like Pachacuti hat makers and the Tharangini studio in Bangalore, India. Learn more.
